BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- A new drama produced and staged by the National Theatre of China will run from June 20 to 23, calling for care and company for elderly people.
The play, with a title that means "here comes Liu Zhen" in Chinese, tells a story of a retired, eccentric old woman who has fired a number of domestic helpers until a rural woman called Liu Zhen comes to work for her and they form a kinship.
It is expected to shed light on social problems such as elderly care and parent-child relationships and to help raise young people's awareness on care and company for seniors and rebuild communications between them, director Shan Guanchao said on Tuesday.
China has seen a fast-growing aging population, with about 170 million aged 65 or above by the end of 2018, accounting for nearly 12 percent of the total population.
