RIGA, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Residents of Latvia's southwestern seaside city of Liepaja took to social networks this week to share reports and pictures of a moose wandering the city's streets, local media reported on Thursday.
"Surrounded by a crowd of kids, a large, confused moose is running along Klaipeda Street in Liepaja. It nearly hopped on the hood of my car. Had to call rescuers," local resident Arturs wrote on Facebook.
Kaspars Varpins, a representative of the Liepaja municipal police, said that the law enforcement officials received information about a moose heading towards the city center at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
"Similar reports were received from several residents, which helped locate the moose with great accuracy," the police representative said.
About an hour later the wild animal was corralled into a backyard. Police guarded the moose there to prevent it from escaping or harming people. A veterinarian who was called to the scene gave the moose a tranquilizer shot before taking it to woods outside Liepaja. Enditem
